The real reason Eric André was brutalized on WWE RAW

Over the last few years, fans of wrestling have noticed the influx of celebrity involvement in WWE. With Travis Scott, Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll, and many other celebrities getting involved in major storylines, the latest episode of WWE Monday Night RAW saw actor-comedian Eric André get brutalized on live television.

In the opening segment of this week’s RAW, fans saw Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns shake hands with André, before the actor got all handsy with Jacob Fatu. “The Samoan Werewolf” rejected André’s approach and instead decided to take him down with force. The segment finished with Fatu executing top rope splashes on André, while Reigns looked at it and smiled.

Now, a major update has emerged on the public beatdown angle. Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed that André’s appearance on WWE RAW was tied to the promotion of his upcoming project with John Cena on Netflix, Little Brother.

“One of the reasons WWE did the angle with Eric Andre last night is he co-stars with John Cena in the new Netflix comedy Little Brother, which will begin streaming on 6/26: So, it was a promotional tie-in deal,” Mike Johnson of PWInsider wrote.

André and John Cena are set to star together in Little Brother. Directed by Matt Spicer, the film’s cast also includes Michelle Monaghan, Christopher Meloni, Ego Nwodim, Sherry Cola, Caleb Hearon, and Ben Ahlers. According to Netflix, the film will follow “a famous real estate agent (Cena) whose carefully curated world is upended when his eccentric ‘little brother’ (André) unexpectedly reappears in his life.”
