The Golden State Warriors may have found what some inside the organization view as an ideal fit with the No. 11 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but one key question continues to complicate the decision.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Yaxel Lendeborg has emerged as a serious candidate for Golden State as the June 23-24 draft approaches at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Slater reported that Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., owner Joe Lacob, executive vice president Kirk Lacob and head coach Steve Kerr have all been involved in evaluating prospects as the franchise weighs its options.
Lendeborg recently completed a pre-draft workout in San Francisco and reportedly strengthened an already favorable impression within the organization.
“The fit is so obvious,” one team source told Slater.
The attraction is understandable. At 6-foot-9, Lendeborg offers size, versatility and experience, traits Golden State has lacked at times in recent seasons. Slater reported that team officials view him as a plug-and-play frontcourt option capable of helping immediately.
The catch, however, is his age.
Lendeborg is 24 years old, making him older than many lottery prospects and even slightly older than former Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. While Golden State does not consider that a disqualifier, it remains part of the evaluation process as the franchise balances short-term competitiveness with long-term upside.
Following his workout with the Warriors, Lendeborg highlighted the qualities he believes he would bring to an NBA organization.
“A lot of people like winners,” Lendeborg said. “Me being in the position that I was this past year showcased that I wanted to put aside any stat, or anything about myself, to win.”
Warriors weighing NBA-ready Yaxel Lendeborg against younger upside at No. 11

His profile appears to align with Golden State’s current needs. After finishing 37-45 and falling short in the Play-In Tournament, the Warriors have emphasized finding players who can contribute around veterans such as Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler III.
ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel recently reported that Lendeborg, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson Jr. are among the prospects under consideration at No. 11. Siegel also noted that Golden State could explore trading down while still targeting one of its preferred prospects.
In Siegel’s latest mock draft, the Warriors moved down one spot in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, acquired an additional future first-round pick and still selected Lendeborg at No. 12.
“Mara and Burries are off the board, which means the Warriors would likely be deciding between Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr.,” Siegel wrote.
The decision ultimately may come down to philosophy. Younger prospects such as Brayden Burries could offer more long-term upside, but Lendeborg is increasingly viewed as one of the most NBA-ready players available.
For a Warriors team trying to compete now while planning for the future, that balance could make him one of the most intriguing names to watch on draft night.
