The Los Angeles Angels have once again been on the struggle bus this season, currently sitting at 30-44 as the 2026 campaign nears its midway point. Meanwhile, franchise icon Mike Trout has continued to produce at an elite level, not quite an MVP-caliber player anymore, but still an All-Star level talent for Los Angeles.
This has led some to wonder if the Angels might consider trading the star and allowing him to go compete for a World Series for the first time in his Hall of Fame career. Recently, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic weighed in on that speculation.
“Trout will be traded only when he wants to be traded,” Rosenthal said, per Chad Jennings of The Athletic. “To this point, he has given no indication — not just this year, but every year — that he is seeking to leave the Angels. If anything, it’s been the opposite. He wants to stay in Anaheim and win in Anaheim.”
Considering that he hasn’t come close to winning anything meaningful during his entire career with the Angels, it’s unclear how Trout or Los Angeles thinks that will start to happen now, especially given the team’s struggles so far this season.
“Might his feelings change at some point? Well, the Angels haven’t had a winning season since 2015,” noted Rosenthal. “But even if Trout said enough was enough, then the question becomes, would Angels owner Arte Moreno do it? And we’ve also seen no indication that Moreno would have an appetite to move Trout. So, for now, the idea remains interesting to think about. But there is no real substance behind it.”
Overall, it doesn’t seem that fans waiting for a Trout change of scenery should be holding their breath.
