Spurs rumors: Buzz builds around NBA Draft trade after losing in Finals

The San Antonio Spurs may not wait long to make their next move after falling to the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals.

According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Spurs are exploring the possibility of trading up in the upcoming NBA Draft, which will take place June 23 and 24 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“The San Antonio Spurs are said to have interest in packaging their second-round picks (35, 42, 44) to move up into either the late first-round or early second-round for the 31st or 32nd picks, depending on who is available,” Siegel reported.

San Antonio enters the draft with multiple second-round selections and appears willing to consolidate those assets to target a specific prospect. The strategy would allow the Spurs to move higher on the board and potentially secure a player they believe can contribute alongside Victor Wembanyama and the rest of the team’s young core.

According to Siegel, several prospects have emerged as potential targets if the Spurs successfully move up.

“Zuby Ejiofor, Joshua Jefferson, and Alex Karaban are viewed as the likeliest early-second-round targets for San Antonio if they do trade up from 42 and 44.”

Spurs could be one of NBA Draft’s most aggressive teams after Finals run

Each player brings a different skill set that could appeal to the Spurs. Ejiofor developed into one of the most productive frontcourt players in college basketball, while Jefferson earned praise for his versatility and all-around game. Karaban has long been viewed as a reliable floor-spacing forward capable of fitting into a variety of lineups.

The reported interest in moving up the draft board comes after an encouraging season for San Antonio. Led by Wembanyama, the Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals before falling to New York in five games.

Despite the disappointing finish, the Finals appearance reinforced the belief that San Antonio’s championship window is only beginning to open.

With three second-round picks at its disposal, the organization appears positioned to be one of the more active teams during draft week. Whether the Spurs ultimately package those selections into a trade remains to be seen, but league buzz suggests San Antonio is exploring ways to maximize its draft capital and strengthen a roster that just finished as a NBA Finals runner-up.
