NBA rumors: Mavericks talking with multiple teams about draft trade

As the Dallas Mavericks prepare for the 2026 NBA Draft, the team owns two first-round selections, with the first at ninth overall. While rumors surround the Mavericks, this NBA insider believes that there is a possibility that the franchise will move down.

According to ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel in his latest NBA Draft intel, there are “multiple teams” that have contacted Dallas about trading for that selection, with the organization “very open to moving down.” Siegel would also note that what the Mavericks are looking for in return is unknown, though the team is “open to the idea” of getting many first-round picks in this upcoming draft.

“This is viewed as a prime trade spot inside the top 10 with less than a week before the NBA Draft. Multiple teams have been in conversations with the Mavericks about trading this pick, and Dallas has signaled that they are very open to moving down,” Siegel wrote. While their asking price is unknown at this time, the Mavs are said to be open to the idea of acquiring multiple first-round picks in this draft. Dallas does own the 30th pick at the end of the first round as well.”

More on what teams could do with the Mavericks’ ninth overall pick

Some players that Siegel mentions that could be seen being taken with the Mavericks’ ninth overall selection, and whichever team acquires it in a potential trade, Houston Cougars guard Kingston Flemings is one. Siegel would even mention the Oklahoma City Thunder going up to that pick and taking center Aday Mara.

“Along with this being a trade-up opportunity for a guard like Flemings, should he fall to the Mavs, this is also a spot in the draft that a team like the Thunder could jump the Warriors to grab Mara, assuming he isn’t taken by Atlanta the pick before. If [Nate] Ament is on the board, he will certainly be in play for trade-up scenarios as well,” Siegel wrote.

It remains to be seen what happens with Dallas and the ninth overall pick when the 2026 NBA Draft starts next Tuesday.
