The San Francisco Giants have not had the best season, and they could be looking to become sellers before the trade deadline. There are a few players who are rumored to be on the move, with one of them possibly being Rafael Devers, according to MLB insider Joh Heyman.
“To trade Devers, how bad would that look to pay that down by 40%? He’s got a WAR of basically zero. I think you’d have to pay it down to at least 40%. Would they do that? Seems unusual and unlikely,” Heyman said.

It’s been a year since the Giants acquired Devers from the Boston Red Sox, and it looks like it hasn’t worked for either team. About a month ago, it was said that the Giants weren’t looking to trade Devers.
“Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, the Giants have not internally discussed trading any of those players,” insider Robert Murray said during an appearance on Foul Territory. “They want to continue to build around them. They want to continue to try to compete this season.”
It will be interesting to see if things change before the deadline, but it may depend on how the Giants perform in the coming months.
Ken Rosenthal tried to explain the Giants’ problems, and one of the reasons was the lack of a hitting coach.
“I can’t put it on the hitting coach, even though they’ve gone to a slightly different style this year; it’s a greater emphasis on contact…but Devers, Chapman, and Adames – these guys have long track records. No hitting coach is going to wreck them,” Rosenthal said. “I just don’t buy that at all. Now, might the hitting coach be scapegoated? Absolutely, the hitting coach might be scapegoated, but it would be just scapegoated, just that.”
