Shohei Ohtani exits mound with bloody finger blister

Shohei Ohtani started on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday for the contest against the Tampa Bay Rays. However, it wasn’t the best performance for him, and it ended with a sudden bloody finger blister before he left the game.

The 31-year-old right-hander had been dealing with a blister on one of his fingers on his right hand for some time. However, it burst during the fifth inning, according to Nelson Espinal of Dodgers Nation. Ohtani remained in the contest for one more inning before exiting the mound.

“Shohei Ohtani was bloodied up, both metaphorically and physically, during the 5th. He has been dealing with a blister for a while now, though Dave Roberts has labeled it as a non-issue. However, it is persisting and something to keep an eye on.”

The four-time MVP played through inflammation in his left knee on Wednesday as well. It was a tough outing for the Dodgers star, as Ohtani allowed a season-high four earned runs in the fifth inning alone. He has now allowed seven earned runs in his last two starts.

While June has been rough for Ohtani, it is ultimately up to manager Dave Roberts on what to do moving forward. The left knee injury doesn’t appear to be helping any, and the finger blister on Wednesday adds to the concerns for the nine-year veteran.

Pitching has been an issue recently, but his presence at the plate has been solid. Shohei Ohtani, this season, has recorded 76 hits, 15 home runs, and 42 RBIs, giving him a .297 batting average and an NL-high .419 OBP.
