John Mulaney makes history with sold-out Wrigley Field show

John Mulaney is making history at Wrigley Field.

The four-time Emmy winner is the first comedian to headline Wrigley Field, and now the Saturday Night Live legend is making history out on the MLB field in his home city. The Chicago native sold out the iconic ballpark that seats 40,000+ fans.

“I’m honored to stand on the same field where I saw Mark Grace rip cigarettes during games, and yell all of my jokes,” Mulaney told Deadline.

While Mulaney is the first comedian to headline Wrigley Field, the ballpark has hosted a select few music icons such as Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Pearl Jam.

Mulaney’s “Mister Whatever” stand-up comedy tour runs through the end of 2026, and the Wrigley Field show on July 11 will kick off the tour. The comedian will be making tour stops in Kansas City, Napa, Atlantic City, and Miami before ending the tour in Maui on Dec. 18.

The comedian started at SNL as a writer and producer in 2008 and left the show in the summer of 2012 after six seasons. However, he has returned to set several times to host the sketch comedy and made it to the five-timers club in 2022. He won his first Emmy in 2011 for co-writing the song “Justin Timberlake Monologue Song” on Saturday Night Live (alongside Seth Meyers and Katreese Barnes), his second one in 2018 for his Netflix stand-up special John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, his third win in his Netflix stand-up special John Mulaney: Baby J in 2023 and his most recent win was fo rOutstanding Writing for a Variety Special (SNL50:The Anniversary Special) in 2025.
