Yankees’ Clark Schmidt takes step forward amid Tommy John surgery recovery

New York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt is continuing to recover from Tommy John surgery. The Yankees have found success despite all of the injuries they have dealt with. Schmidt is taking steps forward, and Gary Phillips shared the latest injury update on the pitcher on Wednesday.

“Clarke Schmidt (Tommy John surgery) threw a bullpen at Yankee Stadium today. Aaron Boone didn’t have a set date for when the he might face live hitters for the first time, but he said Schmidt is still ‘a couple weeks out.’ Schmidt previously said he hoped to face live hitters by the end of the month,” Phillips reported.

Previous reports have suggested that Schmidt could return before the end of the season. It remains to be seen exactly when he will return.

Schmidt last pitched in an MLB game during the 2025 campaign. He turned in a 3.32 ERA across 14 outings during the ’25 season. Schmidt has displayed potential and he is an impactful pitcher. He certainly could make an impact during the Yankees’ postseason run if he is able to return down the stretch.

Overall, New York holds a 44-27 record so far this season. The team is three games ahead of the second place Tampa Bay Rays at the moment. It is certainly impressive what they have accomplished given how many injuries they have dealt with.

The Yankees’ next game is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST on Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox in what should be a competitive game between the American League ball clubs.
