The Montreal Canadiens made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2026. It was a largely successful season for the most storied franchise in the NHL. However, work is needed this summer if Montreal wishes to go further in 2027. The team has been hard at work in their search for a top-six center. One player linked to the Canadiens in recent months is New York Rangers veteran Vincent Trocheck.
Trocheck is a highly reliable player who can contribute at both ends of the ice. He has shown the ability to contribute high-level offense in the past. And he is signed for another three seasons. However, it does not appear as if there is any interest in bringing the former Saginaw Spirit standout to Quebec.
“Many of the teams believed to have interest are the same as The Athletic reported in March, but others have emerged as potential suitors in recent weeks. The Montreal Canadiens are not one of them, according to a league source, who noted there has been no contact between the two clubs about Trocheck,” Rangers writer Vincent Z. Mercogliano recently wrote for The Athletic.
Trocheck is coming off an okay season with a Rangers team that finished dead last in the Eastern Conference. He scored 16 goals and 53 points for New York while skating in 67 games. The veteran center was a highly-discussed trade candidate around the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, but eventually remained on Broadway for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Rangers have publicly stated their intentions to rebuild. Trocheck’s name being out there is certainly no surprise. However, it does not appear as if the Canadiens will be the team that lands Trocheck this summer. What the Canadiens do to fill their need at center will undoubtedly create a lot of intrigue ahead of the new season.
