As the Indiana football team is led by head coach Curt Cignetti, coming fresh off a national championship last season, the program is also being talked about for once having a controversial quarterback, Brendan Sorsby. With the Indiana football program part of the landscape of college football, Cignetti would give his thoughts on the situation with Sorsby.
While Sorsby was last with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, though he never recorded a down in a game with the program, he started his collegiate career with the Hoosiers from 2022 to 2023. Dealing with his gambling scandal, where he admitted to placing thousands of wagers, some on Indiana when he was on the team, leading to the current time, where he was initially denied eligibility by the NCAA.
However, a Texas judge ruled that Sorsby would be eligible for the 2026 season, but now Texas Tech and Sorsby have agreed to part ways, leading to Cignetti calling it on Wednesday on “The Rich Eisen Show” a “real plus for college football.”
“I do think we’re at a tipping point,” Cignetti said. “I think some of the things that have happened in the last couple days [are] a real plus for college football. We need to move forward in a positive direction.”

Indiana football’s Curt Cignetti on Brendan Sorsby
Though Sorsby didn’t play when Cignetti was head coach, there was a brief overlap when both were at the program, even going as far as to say that he is an “outstanding quarterback and a great kid.”
“I know Brendan a little bit,” Cignetti said. “He was actually in the program for about a week and a half when I was hired. I think he’s an outstanding quarterback and a great kid, and I think he’s going to be a great pro with the proper support to overcome some of the issues he’s had. I think he’s got a lot of talent. There’ll be an NFL team that’ll be real happy to have him.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Sorsby, as he looks to enter the NFL.
