While all the attention has been on Milwaukee Brewers star Jacob Misiorowski, the team’s other starting pitcher, Brandon Woodruff, has been dealing with a shoulder issue. As Woodruff has been taking the crucial steps with the Brewers for an inevitable return, the latest update signals that a return seems imminent.
Woodruff would make a rehab start in a “High-A start” on Tuesday, as manager Pat Murphy said he will “rejoin the rotation soon,” according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.
Brandon Woodruff’s fastball sat 90-92 mph in his High-A start last night and will rejoin the rotation ‘soon,’ according to Pat Murphy,” McCalvy wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Does that mean his next start will be with the big league club? ‘Yeah, that’s what ‘soon’ means,’ Murphy said.”
The start in his rehab was deemed “very productive,” as the goal, via McCalvy, was that the Brewers wanted him to throw 80 to 85 pitches and five innings, which he did against Quad Cities, a Kansas City Royals affiliate minor league team.
As Woodruff had been on the 15-day injured list, his numbers this season consist of a 3.60 ERA to go along with 25 strikeouts and a 2-1 record in six games. In regards to when his next start for Milwaukee will be, McCalvy theorizes that it will come in one of three games against the Cincinnati Reds, as that series starts next Monday.
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Woodruff’s official return will be for the Brewers, as there is no denying that with the already productive Milwaukee starting rotation, the 33-year-old’s inclusion should only help the team.
