LSU’s recruiting surge shows no signs of slowing down. After securing commitments from two blue-chip prospects, the Tigers landed their first commitment in the 2028 class when Chesterfield (Va.) three-star offensive tackle Isaiah Whitehead announced his pledge to Lane Kiffin and LSU on Wednesday evening.
Whitehead chose the Tigers over South Carolina and Virginia Tech, while also holding offers from schools such as Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida State, NC State, Penn State, Missouri, Maryland, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, SMU, Cal, Pitt, and Virginia. He made his announcement only hours after his older brother, Chris Whitehead, committed to LSU’s 2027 class. The brothers are teammates at Lloyd C. Bird High School and now both plan to continue their football careers in Baton Rouge.
Listed between 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-4.5 and weighing approximately 325 pounds, Whitehead is regarded as one of Virginia’s top young prospects. Recruiting rankings place him among the state’s best players, with evaluations listing him as either the No. 7 or No. 9 prospect in Virginia. Nationally, he is ranked around No. 405-411 overall and is considered a top-40 offensive tackle in the 2028 cycle, with rankings ranging from No. 34 to No. 38 at his position.
Whitehead’s recruitment accelerated after he accompanied his brother on a visit to LSU this week. During the trip, he met with the coaching staff, received an offer, and ultimately decided to commit to the Tigers. His size and versatility have made him an attractive prospect, with the ability to potentially play either offensive tackle or guard at the collegiate level.
LSU has now secured 10 commitments during June, including five over the last four days, with nine of those pledges belonging to the 2027 class.
