What’s a World Cup without upsets?
Ghana pulled off one on Wednesday night, and did it in dramatic fashion (and timing), as midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi found the back of the net in stoppage time against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto.
Yirenkyi’s goal came at the 95th minute of the match, stunning Panama and causing Ghana fans to absolutely lose it in the stadium, and surely back home as well.
Here is a look at that incredible goal:

With their win, Ghana did not just give themselves a win to celebrate from the get-go, but also put the side in a great position to make it out of the group stage. They are currently second in Group L, behind England, which scored four goals in its first match of the 2026 World Cup.
Ghana, who are in their fifth World Cup over the past six editions of the tournament, are ranked just 65th in the world, while Panama are 40th. While it was not the biggest of upsets in the World Cup, Ghana’s victory is unquestionably noteworthy, especially with many picking Panama as a pre-tournament dark horse.
Now, Panama have their backs against the wall, desperate for a win to get out of the group stages. This is just the second World Cup appearance for Panama,
For Yirenkyi, his goal made his World Cup debut even more memorable. Just 20 years old, the midfielder for Danish Superliga club Nordsjælland will look to add to his exploits when Ghana face the high-powered England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
