Russell Wilson shares what he prayed about before meeting Ciara

Russell Wilson is proof that everything that works out might not go according to your plan.

The Super Bowl champion and Ciara appeared on Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, where Wilson shared what his original plan was before meeting his superstar wife.

“I had a whole plan,” Wilson told Palmer. “I’m going to the Super Bowl. I’m going to be single for about 10 years.”

However, that plan did not last as he met her not too long after.

“I wrote down, prayed over—we prayed over that night,” he recalled. “Three days later, I met Ciara for the first time.”

He shared that he had a few non-negotiables for his future partner. They must possess: faith, loyalty, independence, compassion, and a presence that could command a room. Ciara clearly checked all of those boxes.

Prior to meeting Ciara, Wilson already had an interest in the singer and possessed confidence in pursuing her.

“Somebody asked me, ‘Who do you see yourself with?’” Wilson said. “I was like, ‘Ciara.’ They were like, ‘She ain’t going to like you.’ I said, ‘She ain’t met me yet.’”

The “Level Up” singer shared how much their relationship has given her a positive outlook in herself.

“I do feel holistically like a better woman because of him,” she said. “The way that he loves me and speaks life into me… it just adds more to the layer of my confidence.”

Wilson and Ciara have been married for almost 10 years — they will be celebrating a decade of being married on July. The pair share four children together, including Ciara’s son Future Zahir Wilburn whom she shares with her ex rapper Future.

They have alway celebrated each other’s milestones like most recently when Wilson decided to hang up his cleats after 14 years in the NFL. He shared a heartfelt video on social media about his time in the league.

“You’ve also given me the greatest gift of all: family. To every coach who believed in me, you helped shape me into the man I am today,” he said in the video. “To Coach Carroll, thanks for taking a chance on the young 5-foot-11 black kid from Richmond, Virginia that was told he was too small to ever make it in the NFL. We knew what winning was like. And to every teammate I’ve had the privilege of sharing the locker room with, thank you for the sacrifices, the brotherhood, the memories. None of this is possible without you.”

Ciara responded to the video, writing, “The best in the world!,” adding, “There’s only one, 3!”

She added: “Always so proud of you! It’s a true blessing to go on this journey with you! My greatest inspiration! I love you so much!”

Wilson will now be joining CBS Sports as an analyst and make his full-time analyst debut in the 2026 NFL regular season when it kicks off in September.
