Aces’ Becky Hammon drops truth bomb on 50-game WNBA season in 2027

PHOENIX– Once the WNBA announced a 50-game season in 2027, no one had given an honest reaction. Ever since the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement was passed before the season, this was imminent.

But how quickly the season is jumping was not anticipated. During her pregame availability, Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon spoke on the change and weighed the pros and cons.

“I mean, it is what it is. It’s the growth of the league,” she said.

“When you look at it through that lens, it’s good. We’ll have to see if they allow even more roster spots and stuff like that, because that’s a lot of wear and tear on a group, especially when you start mixing in World Cup and all this other stuff. But more money, more games. That’s the way it works.”

Las Vegas is having an impressive beginning to the season with a 10-4 record. Although the defense isn’t where Hammon wants it to be, A’ja Wilson is still playing at an MVP-level.

With the season being 44 games, there’s more time to analyze preparing for a postseason run. After the Aces had a less than impressive start to last season, they’ve turned it around.

Although 2027 is one calendar year away, preparation can already start to take place. Managing stars, utilizing practice days, and being weary of the schedule are things to keep an eye on.

More reactions will come courtesy of the rest of the league, but this is a step in a positive direction for more eyes on the WNBA.
