NBA rumors: 1 insider’s Giannis Antetokounmpo trade update will leave fans annoyed, but another still ‘optimistic’

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga is nearing its conclusion. The common consensus amongst many analysts is that the Milwaukee Bucks will finally deal the former MVP after trade rumors seemingly reached a critcial point last season. Many believe that it’s a matter of when, not if, Milwaukee trades Antetokounmpo to a different team.

However, that “when” might happen a lot later than fans might want. Chris Haynes reports that while the Bucks are still on track to trade Antetokounmpo, he’s also anticipating that this saga will drag on until after the draft.

“From what I’m hearing, this (Giannis trade talks) can drag on into free agency,” Haynes reported on a recent appearance on SiruisXM NBA radio. “This can drag on into July.”

It’s worth noting that another insider, Jake Fischer. According to reports from both him and ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Bucks have been operating as if they own multiple first-round picks in this year’s draft. That is a big reason to be optimistic, as Fischer detailed in his post.

“They have been very, very busy preparing for this draft,” Fischer notes. “You don’t do that much work if you don’t expect to have picks to capitalize on it. League sources say that Milwaukee has very much been carrying itself like a franchise in recent days that expects to have the No. 13 selection as well as its own No. 10 pick. The Bucks, of course, can only make a selection at No. 13 if they acquire that pick from Miami as part of an Antetokounmpo trade.”

The Heat are one of the many teams vying to get Antetokounmpo’s services. Other teams in the running to trade for Antetokounmpo are the Boston Celtics and the Portland Trail Blazers, though it seems like the two strongest teams in contention are the Heat and the Celtics. The Bucks have fielded offers since at least before the 2026 NBA trade deadline, but have not been saistified with the offers they’ve gotten.

Who will be the one to land The Greek Freak’s services? Will Giannis be donning the colors of a different team, or will the Bucks once again stay put?
