CM Punk makes surprise UFC return amid mysterious WWE hiatus

Absent from WWE television for a few months now, fans last saw CM Punk appear on the Monday Night RAW following WrestleMania 42. Punk’s last appearance dates back to a confrontation with Cody Rhodes, where he teased going after Rhodes’ World title.

However, since then, Punk has remained absent from WWE television without an explanation. Despite his absence, he has been regularly spotted in the gym, working out. Now, as his absence continues, Punk made a shocking UFC return, not physically but virtually.

Ahead of his rumored WWE return later this year, Punk appeared in a promotional UFC video, looking massive and jacked. “The Second City Saint” appeared in an Instagram promotional video for UFC Rivals. An extremely short clip, the video focuses on Punk asking the audience to comment and increase the video’s engagement by talking about the most shocking UFC rivalry.

Punk left WWE in 2014 and made his way to UFC, where he infamously failed to win both of his matches. However, he later retired from UFC action and moved to a more verbal MMA role for Cage Fury Fighting Championships. Interestingly, before his virtual UFC return, Punk was also spotted attending Ronda Rousey’s MMA comeback fight on Netflix.

More on CM Punk’s WWE return

While nothing confirmed has been shared or reported on CM Punk’s WWE return, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter opened and addressed Punk’s rumored comeback.

“The plan right now is for him [CM Punk] to return on Smackdown, which is basically a balancing act. The belief is with Raw having Reigns, Rollins, The Usos, Fatu, Femi, Logan Paul and Breakker that Punk made more sense on Smackdown with a top tier of Rhodes, Gunther, Ripley and soon to be Punk, Orton and McIntyre. Plus Rhodes vs. Punk has been a direction. The return date of 7/6 Raw in Chicago makes sense, although that is a Raw date, not Smackdown, but that’s really not material in the sense Chicago does make sense for him to appear.“
