With the NBA Draft in less than a week, it’s obvious that the Milwaukee Bucks need to make a move on Giannis Antetokounmpo soon. They know that they’re going to trade him because they’ve been one of the busier teams during the draft process, as they believe they’ll have multiple first-round picks.
The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics are the two teams that have apparently shown their hand in a trade for Antetokounmpo, but one of those teams is getting a little frustrated, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
“Yet we must acknowledge the undeniable rumbles in circulation Wednesday that the Celtics, weary of incessant speculation about a Giannis-to-Boston deal featuring Jaylen Brown, are getting frustrated with the process,” Stein wrote. “One source familiar with the matter insisted that all the ‘Brown to third team talk’ is premature.
“Miami and Boston both stand as the two teams league personnel with knowledge of the situation describe as maintaining an ongoing conversation with Milwaukee on Antetokounmpo. League sources likewise maintain that’s because the Heat and Celtics are teams that believe Antetokounmpo is prepared to sign a long-term extension with them after a trade.”
Brown has been rumored to be the centerpiece in the trade if Antetokounmpo is moved to the Celtics, but what if Boston is trying to find a way to keep him out of the deal? It’s uncertain what that would look like, but it may also be harder to make a trade if they’re trying to keep him out.
At the same time, the Bucks may not want to trade Brown to a third team, but it wouldn’t make sense for them to hold on to him. For however long they’ve been trying to trade Antetokounmpo, they’ve asked for young players and assets, which is what the Heat have been offering since February.
