Nuggets rumors: Nikola Jokic’s Serbia teammate a free agency target

The Denver Nuggets are looking for ways to retool this offseason after a rough end to the 2025-26 campaign, which saw them lose to the undermanned Minnesota Timberwolves in six games. While the Nuggets finished the regular season out looking like a title contender, those good vibes were quickly erased with the playoff flameout.

Recently, Djordje Matic of Meridian Sports reported that Los Angeles Clippers guard Bogdan Bogdanovic was a target for Denver in free agency this summer. The Clippers are expected to decline their $16 million contract option on Bogdanovic, who largely fell out of Ty Lue’s rotation this year after being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks last season.

Bogdanovic was teammates with Nuggets star Nikola Jokic on the Serbian National Team during the 2024 Olympics, and the two seemed to share a good chemistry on the court during that run. Adding Bogdanovic to the Nuggets would give Denver another sharpshooter off the bench to join Tim Hardaway Jr., although he likely wouldn’t do much to solve the Nuggets’ problems with athleticism or lack of defense.

Both of those issues were thoroughly exposed in the playoffs against a Minnesota team dealing with several key injuries, including to superstar Anthony Edwards, which made this offseason a crucial one for Denver moving forward. Many expect that the Nuggets will look to move off the contracts of Christian Braun and Cam Johnson this offseason, although doing so will not be an easy task, especially for Braun, who currently looks to be on one of the worst deals in the NBA.

In any case, the NBA free agency period is officially slated to open for business on June 30.
