Quinn Priester broke out for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. In 24 starts and 29 games overall, he wetn 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA. The Brewers were hoping for more of the same this year, but Priester has been on the IL with thoracic outlet syndrome.
Now, Priester is giving an update on his status for the rest of the season, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.
“Talking to Dr. Pearl again,” Priester said speaking to reporters. “Doing all the things we had gone through to try to fix this problem without surgery. We just kind of got to the point where these things aren’t working. So, we’re going to go down on Monday and get surgery with Dr. Pearl. Make sure we clean this issue up. So that the rest of my career, this isn’t an issue. I think 10 years ago, this was more of a question mark, but now as things progress, like everything in the medical field, I feel really, really confident that we’re going to come back even better.”
The surgery will keep him out for the rest of the season, but he is hopeful to return to his solid form on the mound in 2027.
“Eight to 10 weeks and then we’ll throw plyos,” Priester continued discussing the recovery. “12 weeks, light catch. Then, it’s a buildup after that three-month period of baseball. Essentially, what we’ve seen other people is in the eight to 10 month range before you’re really back at 100 percent physically. Just recovering and building the arm back up. But I’m confident with my body, and I’m still a pretty young guy to make that, that to be able to make that a little quicker.”
Priester was the 18th overall selection of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Pittsburg Pirates. He would make his MLB debut in 2023, but struggle and return to the minors. Priester would return to the majors the next year and be traded to the Boston Red Sox during the season. He spent most of the rest of the season in the minors, but did make one start for the Red Sox.
He was traded once again at the start of the 2025 season to the Brewers, where he broke out.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are 45-26 on the season, which places them in first place in the NL Central. They finish their three-game set with the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday.
