Knicks’ Jeremy Sochan keeping JR Smith vibes going at championship parade

On Thursday, the New York Knicks took to the streets of Manhattan to celebrate their recent NBA championship win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks have been on a celebration tour all week as they commemorate their first NBA title since the 1973 season.

Among those in attendance for the parade was Knicks forward Jeremy Sochan, who was seen vibing without a shirt on during the festivities.

The fashion choice, or lack thereof, conjured up memories of JR Smith during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2016 championship celebration.

Funnily enough, Sochan started out the year with the Spurs before being released and joining the Knicks, meaning he had ties to both NBA Finals teams, and might have received a championship ring regardless of who ended up winning. Sochan played sparingly in this series, particularly when Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns was dealing with foul trouble.

Meanwhile, the Knicks are in full-on celebration mode currently as they bask in the glow of their first NBA title in over five decades, having finished the playoffs with a 15-1 surge after falling behind 2-1 in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks. At that point, the Knicks started running their offense through Towns as a playmaking hub on the perimeter, and it also helped that OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges seemingly didn’t miss a shot for a month straight.

Jalen Brunson overcame a rough start to the NBA Finals to ultimately win Finals MVP honors, capping off the run with a 45-point masterpiece in Game 5 in San Antonio.

The Knicks figure to bring back essentially the same core of players next year as they look to build off their championship run and become the NBA’s first repeat title winner since the 2018 Golden State Warriors.
