MLB rumors: Phillies trading for Mike Trout deemed ‘extremely unlikely’ by insider

While the Philadelphia Phillies have worked their way back into playoff contention, they are still in need of some reinforcements, particularly in the outfield. However, Phillies fans shouldn’t be expecting a blockbuster for Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout anytime soon.

Trout has been connected to Philadelphia for nearly his entire career. However, like has been the case through all the other trade rumors, the Angels don’t seem poised to deal Trout away, via Jim Bowden of the Athletic.

“Acquiring another outfielder is the Phillies’ top priority after the significant injury to Adolis García,” Bowden wrote. “Although fans would love to see a Mike Trout trade, that seems extremely unlikely at this point due to his contract and the historical unwillingness of Angels ownership to trade their superstars.”

Trout is under contract through the 2030 season, making over $37 million a year. That alone makes it hard for the Phillies to facilitate a trade. Furthermore, Trout has spent his entire career in Los Angeles. While the Angels may be 30-45 on the season, the franchise has remained fiercely loyal to their players; i.e Shohei Ohtani. Unless Trout specifically requests a trade, they don’t seem inclined to deal their franchise star.

The outfielder is in the midst of a resurgence through his first 74 games in 2026. Trout is hitting .234 with 17 home runs, 36 RBIs and seven stolen bases. He leads the Angels in home runs, ranks second in RBIs and third in stolen bases.

Philadelphia can continue to dream about a life with Trout. But the chances of a deal actually coming to fruition look miniscule.
