On Thursday morning, the New York Knicks hit the streets of New York City for their 2026 championship parade, celebrating their recent NBA Finals win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks have been hitting talk shows and other media spots all week to make sure the world is aware that they have secured their first NBA title in over five decades.
One of the most high-profile speakers at Thursday’s parade was New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani, who was in attendance for multiple Knicks games during this playoff run, and gave an eight-minute speech for the packed crowd in Manhattan.

In one part of his speech, Mamdani made sure to shout out past members of the Knicks’ organization, including several players from various iterations of the team, as well as former head coach Tom Thibodeau, who helped lay the framework by turning New York from a laughingstock into a playoff squad before being fired last year.
This season, it was first-year head coach Mike Brown who ultimately got the Knicks over the hump, pressing all the right buttons down the stretch of the playoffs, which New York finished with an impressive 16-3 record.
The Knicks are now atop the NBA mountain for the first time since the 1973 season, and they haven’t shown any signs of going anywhere anytime soon. New York is poised to bring back essentially the same core of players for next year, although Mitchell Robinson and Landry Shamet will both be free agents, and no team has won two straight championships since the 2018 Golden State Warriors.
For now, however, the Knicks are still making sure their 2026 title gets a proper celebration.
