The MLB season is moving along, and we are just under the halfway point of the regular season. Minor trades are being completed and discussed right now, but we are not far from some blockbuster trades happening around the league.
The Atlanta Braves are an interesting team to pay attention to in this manner, as they have a roster built to win a World Series. The issue, however, is health. Superstars Ronald Acuna Jr and Spencer Strider are not on the field right now, and Michael Harris II is banged up, and Sean Murphy is also on the IL.
The Athletic released the most pressing needs the Braves and other teams will be exploring at the trade deadline.
Needs: Starting pitching; another hitter
“The recent Spencer Strider injury news has pushed the Braves’ need for starting pitching to the front of the line, with another hitter being a secondary need. In terms of a bat, left field or shortstop are likely their two target areas.”
The Braves do desperately need another starter. Chris Sale, Bryce Elder, and Grant Holmes can hold down the fort, but without Strider, they need at least one more dominant arm to feel comfortable about contending for the title.
As for a bat, trading for a player like CJ Abrams could be massive for this team. The Braves need a shortstop badly, as Ha-Seong Kim has not hit the ball well. Kim is a defensive-first player, and Mauricio Dubon is a utility player who can play any position. Let’s see what the 2021 champions do in 2026.
