Ducks gets brutal injury news on Troy Terry ahead of NHL Draft

Despite being eliminated in the Western Conference Semifinal by the eventual Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights, the Anaheim Ducks have plenty to feel good about thanks to their best season since 2017-18.

The Ducks eliminated the Edmonton Oilers in the opening round of the postseason, the first time they’d played beyond the regular season since 2018. But now, Ducks GM Pat Verbeek has plenty of work ahead to ensure that his club’s appearance in the playoffs this past season wasn’t an anomaly. And they’re already being dealt a blow to one of their top players not long after they got the news that defenseman John Carlson is going to test free agency.

The Ducks announced on Thursday that forward Troy Terry has undergone successful surgery and isn’t expected to be available until well into next season.

“Injury Update: Troy Terry underwent successful surgery on June 9 to address hip impingement and a labral tear,” the Ducks wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “He has begun the rehabilitation process and is expected to make a full recovery in approximately 5-6 months.”

Terry missed 20 games during the 2025-26 season, but not because of his hip ailment. Terry, who was taken by the Ducks in the fifth round (148th overall pick) of the 2015 NHL Draft, has only appeared in 70 or more games five times so far in his NHL career.

During that span, he’s appeared in a total of 488 career regular season games and has scored 135 goals with 207 assists. He’s also added three goals and eight assists in 12 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
