While the Seattle Mariners are now with a returning Cal Raleigh, the team is now dealing with another injury to a huge player, this time to Julio Rodriguez. Despite the Mariners having Raleigh and JP Crawford making returns, Rodriguez’s situation will be monitored as he gets a key update from manager Dan Wilson.
Suffering a hamstring injury during Seattle’s 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, the issue first started when Rodriguez made a running catch in the sixth inning, making a jumping grab to prevent a big Adley Rutschman hit. Rodriguez would exit the game after that, as Wilson described him as “day-to-day,” wanting to be careful with the 25-year-old.
“We thought it best — given what we’ve got going on right now, in terms of injuries — that it was smart to get him out of there and give it a little bit of a rest,” Wilson said, according to MLB.com.
“It’s something that we just wanted to be careful with,” Wilson continued, “and we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez “moving well” after getting hamstring injury
So far this season with the Mariners, Rodriguez has recorded a .249 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs in 75 games. With Rodriguez not playing in Thursday’s game, he was seen “running with the trainers,” as strength coaches were monitoring, according to Ryan Divish, even saying he was “moving well.”
“Injuries are just part of the season,” Wilson said. “It happens, it happens to every team, happens with all teams. It seems to have happened kind of simultaneously here with us, with a lot of different guys. But that’s just the way the game is sometimes, and we’re battling through it.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen how much longer Rodriguez will be out with the hamstring injury, as the last thing that Seattle wants is for another major star to be absent for a significant amount of time.
