Tyler Heineman bids farewell to Blue Jays after Angels trade

Tyler Heineman’s seven-year MLB career has taken plenty of twists and turns. In his latest move, the catcher has been traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Angels.

Before officially joining the Angels, Heineman had one last message for Blue Jays Nation. He spent five years with the franchise, and won’t soon forget his time in Toronto, via the team’s X, formerly Twitter account.

“These past five years have been nothing short of incredible,” Heineman wrote. “From being a Blue Jay, to getting traded to the Pirates, to getting claimed again by the Jays, to getting claimed by the Red Sox, to once again get claimed by the Jays all in the span of three years was CRAZY! But every time I came back, I loved it more and more.”

Heineman originally joined the Blue Jays on a minor league deal back in 2022. He spent time with both the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates since then, but his 126 games with the Blue Jays double any amount of time with other franchises.

In Toronto, Heineman hit .242 with four home runs, 30 RBIs and two stolen bases. Most of that production came in 2025, when he had three home runs and 20 RBIs. He was also a part of the Blue Jays team that made a run to the World Series.

Offensively, his numbers may not jump off the page. But his longevity in the league speaks to his abilities behind the plate. The fact most of that time was with the Blue Jays shows how highly the franchise thinks of him.
