Bruins trade Boston College prospect to Sharks for draft picks

There is another trade to announce in the NHL involving the San Jose Sharks, who already acquired defenseman Michael Kesselring from the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

The Boston Bruins have traded unsigned draft choice Andre Gasseau and a 2026 fourth round draft selection (120th overall) to the Sharks in exchange for a 2026 fourth round draft selection (104th overall, originally Florida’s selection) and a 2026 fifth round draft selection (157th overall, originally Montreal’s selection).

Gasseau, 22, wrapped up his senior campaign at Boston College by recording 23 points on six goals and 17 assists in 23 games. He ranked fourth among team scorers and wore the captain’s “C” during the season.

A seventh-round selection by Boston in the 2021 NHL Draft (213th overall), the Garden Grove, California native leaves the collegiate ranks with 111 points, including 43 goals and 68 assists, across 135 NCAA appearances. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound forward established himself as a consistent contributor throughout his college career.

Additionally, the move reunites him with Sharks forward Will Smith, who also played for Boston College and previously helped them advance to the NCAA National Championship game.

According to his scouting report, Gasseau has a strong shot while also showing flashy moves on the ice.

“He’s a shooter with some flash and instincts,” his scouting report reads via Elite Prospects. “He consistently finds space between the faceoff dots, ready for a one-timer or catch-and-release wrister. Handling skills complement Gasseau’s shooting, as he turns tricky passes into powerful wristers. He catches passes in motion, beats players in motion, and flashes the 1-on-1 skill to watch through a defender on occasion.”
