There is ongoing speculation regarding the long-term future of Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck with the franchise, which selected him with the 130th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
In the meantime, Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has taken care of another important matter of internal business, extending the contract of minor league goaltender Isaac Poulter; he’s been inked to one-year, two-way contract extension with an average annual value in the NHL of $855,000.
At 24 years old, Poulter split the 2025-26 season between the AHL and ECHL. The Winnipeg native appeared in three games with the Manitoba Moose, posting a perfect 2-0-0 record along with a 2.83 goals-against average and .885 save percentage.
He spent the majority of the campaign with the Norfolk Admirals, where he played 43 games and compiled a 25-17-1 mark, two shutouts, a 2.76 GAA, and a .905 save percentage. Across 80 career appearances in the AHL, Poulter has registered a 42-24-10 record while adding five shutouts, a 2.88 goals-against average, and a .899 save percentage during his professional career.
In the meantime, the Jets and their fans are understandably worried about the potential loss of Hellebuyck, who has turned into one of the NHL’s best goaltenders over the course of his NHL career and also recently helped lead Team USA to a shocking upset of Team Canada in the 2026 Winter Milan Olympics. Team USA, helped by a super-human performance in the gold medal game, defeated Canada to win their first gold medal since the 1980 Miracle on Ice.
The Jets, who won the President’s Trophy in 2024-25, were unable to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season.
